Premiering at the Vancouver International Film Festival in 2009, this experimental film paved the way for the production later that year of The High Life, Zhao Dayong's award-winning first fiction feature. Filmed in a semi-documentary style, Rough Poetry unfolds as a melange of characters playing themselves try to work out their relationship to each other and to their unusual space -- a large cage set in the center of a huge gallery space.
